Wellness Visit
Even with best home care, it is important to see us at least twice a year. During your checkup, we will check for issues that you may not see or feel yet. Many dental problems like cavities, gum disease or oral cancer won’t cause pain or concern until they are in advanced stages. If we catch any of these issues in their early stages, they are very manageable. Wellness Visits at Smile Dental Studio include:
Professional Teeth Cleaning
No matter how well you brush and floss, harmful bacteria can grow in your mouth and can only be removed by a professional. If left untreated, this can cause cavities, gum disease and affect your overall health. During a professional cleaning, your hygienist will use special tools to remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. Your teeth will then be polished and flossed.
Oral Cancer Screening
During your checkup, the dentist will screen your mouth for signs of oral cancer, which is highly treatable when discovered early. We will look for any lesions or abnormal patches of red or white cells.
Digital X-Rays
If necessary, we may take X-rays during your visit. We use digital radiography which is a form of X-ray imaging that does not use traditional photographic film or chemicals to develop. This is faster, better for the environment and lower in radiation than traditional X-rays. X-rays are usually diagnostic, but can also be preventative, by allowing us to see potential oral care issues before they become serious.
DIAGNOdent Cavity Detection
At Smile Dental Studio, we use the DIAGNOdent device to diagnose cavities. This is a high-tech laser fluorescence cavity detection aid which can measure the changes in tooth structure that cavities cause. DIAGNOdent is over 90 percent accurate in diagnosing cavities in early stages! This gentle and painless procedure allows us to preserve as much healthy tooth as possible.
